In order to spice up her marital life and her relationship with her husband, Ila with the aid of her aunt who lives in the flat above, begin to concoct elaborate menus based on old recipes with the sole purpose of winning back her uninvolved husband’s affection. Different from what the two women expect, the recipient of the lunchbox is none other than Saajan who is spending the days of his last month as an accountant bored and in anticipation of his new life as a pensioner away from the bustling city. Sooner or later, Ila will find out the innocent mistake and without delay, she will write a letter to the unknown recipient of her food, placing it inside a lunchbox compartment in an attempt to sort out the situation. Instead, life’s mysterious ways will take over and through a series of lunchbox messages, the genuine interest will gradually give way to a true friendship where the two will exchange their lifetime memories, share their love for soap operas and eventually, bond. When Ila accidentally finds out about her husband’s infidelity, she will inevitably turn to Saajan for advice; a great opportunity for the two of them to actually meet for the first time, but are they courageous enough to make the first and most crucial step in their relationship?
The Lunchbox, a man who’s been grieving since his wife died, a woman who wants to seek her husbands attention to rekindle their love and the only way she’ll do it is cooking . This woman wants to cook her way through her husbands heart and she would’ve succeeded only if the very famous ‘dabbawalas’ of Mumbai city would not have messed up her plan by delivering the hard cooked and awesomely delicious food to Mr. Fernandez. Realizing the mistake of the delivery she writes Fernandez a note about it and the in a series of fortunate and unfortunate notes the movie turns out to be beautiful.
only thing I’ll be adding is that if you are a typical Bollywood buff you’d be surprised what Indian Cinema is capable of.
